Miss Rodeo Weston County

A 2007 graduate of Newcastle High School, Shawna was very active in high school. She participated in volleyball and cheerleading and was also a member of the local FBLA and FFA Chapters as well as the Student Council. Shawna had the privilege of holding offices in both FFA and Student Council. She was a member of the Newcastle High School Marching band as well as the high school chorus. Shawna also had the privilege of being in the Gemtonz singing ensemble. She was an eleven year member of 4-H and was a junior leader for six years. In college, Shawna is involved with the University of Wyoming Student Ambassadors and recently joined the Collegiate FFA Chapter. 

Currently, Shawna is a junior at the University of Wyoming where she is majoring in Agricultural Communications.  On completion of her Bachelor’s degree, Shawna plans to transfer and get her Master’s degree in Agricultural Communications as well. After she receives both degrees, Shawna plans on going to a specialty school for Equine Massage Therapy and Chiropractics. Someday, she hopes to own her own practice. She also would like to use her degree and work as a broadcaster for the PRCA.
Born and raised in Newcastle, Shawna is the 21-year-old daughter of Kirk and Kim Praeuner. Shawna was on horses at a very young age and immediately fell in love with them. She was the kid who wore dresses with Wranglers underneath and cowboy boots, just in case she had the chance to be horseback. To this day, her favorite place is on her horse, riding anywhere she possibly can.

Courtney Mathews
Miss Rodeo Weston County Junior Queen
Courtney Mathews is the 17 year old daughter of Ed and Linda Mathews and will be a senior at Newcastle High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Editor of the yearbook, and president of the Newcastle Saddle and Sirloin FFA Chapter. Courtney is also a member of the band and recently returned from a tour of Europe with the Wyoming Ambassadors of Music, where she played in 7 different European countries as a member of a large concert band.
Courtney is a 10 year 4H member and has won many awards such as member of the year, junior leader of the year and various horse sportsmanship and all-around awards. She enjoys riding her horses Lucky and Rio and breaking her colt Kota, rodeo, showing her horses, and helping younger 4H members ride.

Courtney will attend Sheridan College in the fall of 2010, majoring in Ag Business Sales and Services. She also hopes to hold the title of Miss Rodeo Weston County, compete for the title of Miss Rodeo Wyoming and maybe even America someday.

 
 
 
Emalee Sweet
Miss Rodeo Weston County Junior Princess
Emalee is the 9 year-old daughter of Shane & Marissa Sweet. She attends Newcastle Elementary School and is a member of the Elk Mountain Outlaws 4H Club, Weston County Cowbelles and the Friends of the Weston County Fair.  She won the sportsmanship award at the 2007 Weston County Junior Rodeo and was the 2008 most improved cowgirl. Emalee loves animals, playing with her sisters, riding her horse, doing ranch work and playing basketball, volleyball and she loves to ski.

Her definition of a rodeo queen is “a pretty girl who loves rodeo and showing others about the western way of life. She is someone who is nice and gets along with others.”
